THE EFFECT OF POWER (PREPARING, ORGANIZING, WRITING, EDITING AND REWRITING) STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILL
Written language is perhaps the most difficult of all skills to acquire because its development involves the effective coordinator of many different cognitive, linguistic, and psychomotor processes. Writing involves complex thinking that must integrate multiple components including the topic and theme, choice of words, organization, purpose, audience, clarity, sequence, cohesion and transcription. Many the students are reluctant to write because they rarely write, even in their own language. The lack of writing practice makes students perform poorly in writing. This study investigates the effect of POWER (Preparing, Organizing, Writing, Editing and Rewriting) Strategy in teaching writing skill to the students. The study was conducted at an Islamic High school in Indramayu and employs a pre-experimental. The result of the research showed that the students’ writing skill improve significantly after they were taught using POWER strategy, therefore POWER is effective to improve students’ writing skill.
